In Darkness
In 2017, the Washington Post created a motto for themselves: “Democracy Dies in Darkness”. The assumption is that they would be shining the light on the democracy destroying darkness.
On Friday, Bezos decided to veto the editors’ endorsement of Kamala Harris for president. By many accounts 1 2 3 4 5 6, this was a mistake and the only reason for Bezos to do this, so close to election day, is because he fears the retribution of a potential Trump presidency.
Bezos and the Washington Post has failed to live up to their motto. This surrender to an aspiring autocrat is exactly the kind of darkness which the newspaper should be shining a light on. Instead, rather than shining a light, they’ve decided to turn one off.
